Rejuvenate Sun Damaged Skin with Laser Skin Treatments

Did you know that most of the signs of skin aging are caused by UV rays? Wrinkles, age/brown spots, crepey texture and other age-related skin issues are all signs of sun damage. Living in Arizona, it is difficult to hide from the sun and even with sunscreen and coverups, you can still be a victim of sun damage. If you are noticing signs of aging or sun damage, there are ways to improve your skin. At Arcadia Wellness Center, we offer laser skin treatments for sun-damaged skin to rejuvenate its appearance.

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Treatments for Sun-Damaged Skin

One of the least invasive and effective treatment options for skin that is sun-damaged is IPL treatments. This device uses intense pulsed light energy to target areas of sun damage on the skin. The IPL energy is focused on pigmented cells that can be caused by sun damage. It targets these darker cells and destroys them while leaving the healthy surrounding cells unharmed. The darker skin cells are replaced with normal-colored skin, removing the darker areas. IPL treatments are ideal for the following types of sun damage:

  • Brown or age spots
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Dry or dull skin

IPL treatments are not painful and there is no downtime needed after. The treated areas will be red and dark spots may be darker before they flake away over the following weeks. IPL treatments can also be used for spider vein removal and for fading certain vascular formations like birthmarks.

Laser Skin Resurfacing

For a complete skin rejuvenation for severe sun damage, laser skin resurfacing can be the right treatment option. While more invasive than IPL treatments, laser skin resurfacing can also have more benefits. This treatment removes the top layer of damaged skin cells with light energy to reveal new skin cells. The resurfacing process stimulates collagen and elastin for healing the skin, which can improve the overall firmness and texture.

At AWC, we use both a nano resurfacing laser skin resurfacing treatment and CO2 laser treatment. Both can achieve excellent results for reducing lines, wrinkles, age spots and other sun damage. Nano may require multiple treatments, but there is no downtime. CO2 only requires one treatment, but it does require about two weeks of downtime while the skin heals.
