Who Should Get Tested for COVID-19?
Healthcare professionals agree with the recommendation that the CDC has posed. Anybody that has symptoms of COVID-19 such as coughing, fever, sore throat, and other flu-like symptoms should be tested for COVID-19 as soon as possible to prevent the spread of the virus.
Some of the symptoms of COVID-19 that have been reported are:
- Fever or chills
- Shortness of breath/difficulty breathing
- Cough
- Fatigue
- Headache
- Body aches
- Sore throat
- Congestion
Anybody that has recently traveled to and from an area that has been inundated with COVID-19 cases should be tested.
Being tested for the virus and responding correctly to a positive test will help to prevent the spread of the virus and ultimately allow us to stomp it out of existence.
Types of COVID-19 Tests Available
The two types of COVID-19 tests that we offer are:
- Rapid Antigen COVID-19 Tests
- COVID-19 Antibody Tests
Rapid Antigen tests are also known as “Rapid tests.” They are most accurate once a person has begun to experience symptoms of COVID-19. These tests detect a specific type of protein that is present in the virus.
A simple swab of the inner nostrils will allow enough of a sample of mucus for the test to be able to detect the presence of the proteins that COVID-19 contains.
The technician will gently swipe a Q-Tip around the walls of both nostrils then insert it into the testing cap.
The results of the test can be available in as little as 15 minutes, or up to one hour.
Antibody tests detect the presence of an immune response in a person that is infected or has been infected with the COVID-19 virus.
When a person is fighting an illness they will develop what is known as “antibodies.” A simple blood test will be able to discover if there are any antibodies in the bloodstream that were manufactured in response to the COVID-19 virus.
